Galleri Astley

Arts Center in Bergslagen

Galleri Astley

In the Swedish countryside's lush embrace lies Galleri Astley, a unique and exciting Art Center, renowned amongst the art-interested in Sweden and the world alike. Here, one can find the works of Sweden's foremost artists, and the works of many international artists as well. Through painting, prints and sculpture, from the figurative to the abstract, all forms of expression are represented.

In may of 1977, Astley Nyhlén and his family opened the art gallery in the splendid, old railway station built in 1897. The famous Russian-American artist Ernst Neizvestny, known for his monumental sculpture on the Aswan dam in Egypt, took part in the grand opening exhibition. Many of his paintings and sculptures are on permanent exhibit in "The Museum".

Behind the gallery and across from the train platform lies Uttersberg's acoustic reserve. Assi Domain set aside 2,5 hectares of woodland to create a natural amphitheater which is the venue for many musical events, such as the annual "Jazz on the Platform"
